This small piece comes from a once-majestic elm that stood just a few blocks from my home. Unfortunately, the tree had to be removed due to disease, but a small part of it lives on here.

Turned green—while the wood was still full of moisture—the vessel changed as it dried, shifting ever-so-slightly out of round. That subtle warping gives it an organic, time-worn feel.

The exterior has been hand-textured and finished with a white hardwax oil, while the interior is a deep, midnight blue, achieved with traditional milk paint—giving contrast of both texture and depth.

For those who appreciate a sense of place, these GPS coordinates mark where this mighty elm once stood:

45°31'57.7"N 122°42'02.1"W

Dimensions (approx.):
Ø: 3-1/4 (8 cm)
H: 3-1/2” (9 cm)
